I know you don’t need me to tell you this, but graduating from college is a huge deal! You have put so much work into the past few years, and now, it’s time to move on to the next chapter of life. When you are getting ready for your graduation portraits, you need a way to show off the space where you just spent so much of your time. Luckily, Grand View University has a number of spots perfect for your session! As a Des Moines senior and grad portrait photographer, I adore working with students to plan their Grand View University Graduation sessions. Here are the best locations on campus for your graduation photos.
2800 E 14th Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50316
Rasmussen Center has several ideal spots when it comes to your Grand View University graduation portraits. The brick of the exterior offers a clean yet industrial backdrop for outdoor pictures. Meanwhile, the interior has a colorful staircase with a mid-century-inspired glass railing and windows that let in plenty of natural light. The upstairs is similarly light and sunny, with tons of room to move around.
1200 Grandview Ave, Des Moines, Iowa 50316
If you are looking for a gorgeous Grand View University building for your backdrop, the Humphrey Center is one of the best there is for graduation photos! This grand and historic building stands proudly on the campus, surrounded by lush green grass and well-maintained walkways. The concrete stairs leading up to the walkway are the ideal place to stand, with the building centered behind you.
13th Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50316
Throughout my Grand View sessions, I typically try to incorporate the Memorial Gardens located near 13th Street and Boyd. This is the perfect way to add a natural touch to your pictures, giving you an open green space with several trees that turn colors as the fall begins to arrive. This space is also right next to Humphrey Center, giving you easy access to the building so you can use both areas for your pics.
2811 E 14th Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50316
The Student Center gives you a lot of the charm of the Rasmussen Center with an expansive, sun-lit lobby. The staircase is similar to the Rasmussen Center with glass shaded with the Grand View University red and gold perfect for graduation photos. Once you are done over here, you can head upstairs, where the windows let in plenty of natural light. CJ’s Place, right next to the lobby, gives you the school’s trademark red tones from floor to ceiling, but it might be a bit overwhelming for some. Your mileage may vary, of course!
2811 E 14th Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50316
Viking Theater is located inside the Student Center and gives you all the drama you could need for your photo session. Even if you didn’t work with this department, you will still love the red seats with the textured stone walls and the industrial, exposed ceiling.
Hopefully, this helps you as you start to plan your Grand View University graduation session. If you could still use some help, though, just let me know! As a Des Moines senior photographer, I adore working with seniors, so they have sessions that let them celebrate this huge accomplishment.
