About Basking Babies
Basking Babies is an Iowa practice that was founded to help moms with breastfeeding. The practice was originally opened by award-winning lactation consultant Angela Swieter. While Angela still does a lot of good work with families across Northern Iowa, she handed the reins of the practice over to Melissa Davis, a former RN who worked as a labor and delivery coach starting in 1992. Melissa uses her experience, as well as her training as a lactation consultant, to help you find success on your breastfeeding journey.

Basking Babies is a lactation consultant practice that is here to help you through every step of breastfeeding. Many new moms choose to use their services well before their babies even arrive. The center offers prenatal lactation consultations to prepare you for those initial feedings. During your time, Melissa is going to go over your history and your anatomy before helping you draft up goals for breastfeeding. You will have a practice plan that you can use once your baby arrives.
Once your baby is born, you can opt for postpartum lactation consultations. These tend to be a popular option for moms who have hit roadblocks of some form or other. Melissa will start by assessing your baby’s oral anatomy as well as your breast anatomy. From there, she will observe your baby’s latch and feeding. She offers both advice and hands-on assistance, helping with things such as positioning and holds. You will have a follow-up appointment over the phone afterward.
