Dual enrollment classes are one of the best tools for high school students. You already need a set amount of classes to finish high school. Why not opt to have some of these hours count toward your college education so you can have a jumpstart while avoiding some debt? DMACC Career Advantage has a pretty amazing program that high school students around the area have come to love! As a Des Moines senior photographer, I get the chance to connect with students and find out what sets this program apart. Here’s why I always recommend students check it out.
DMACC Career Advantage–short for Des Moines Area Community College–first opened its doors in 1966. From the very beginning, this college has been all about making school more accessible to all. There are currently six campuses around the state with over 20,431 students. While many choose this school as the launching pad for their college education, you don’t have to wait until graduation to get started. With their dual enrollment program, you can take classes that count for college credit. You’ll spend less time and less money once it’s time for college to actually start!
Currently, thousands of students in the area are taking dual enrollment classes through DMACC Career Advantage. These classes take place right within your school. When you choose this option, you will have several different ways to get college credits. Most students choose to take the classes on their own campus. You can meet with your counselor and find out what classes your school offers that will count for credit. While these classes will go toward a 2-year degree at DMACC, the program has agreements with over 925 national colleges and universities.
If you would prefer, you can apply those credits to a four-year degree at one of those schools. Those who don’t want to commit to extra time in the classroom can choose from a number of online courses. The DMACC website makes it easy to browse through the catalog and find the ones that would work best for you. These classes range in subjects from communications to math and sciences.
If you really want to expand your horizons, DMACC Career Advantage gives you the chance to enroll in a class on their campus. They know how your school schedule works, and they offer flexible options you can fit in before or after your high school hours. Most students will earn 12-18 credits from these classes, and they are completely free to take! This is going to give you hands-on experiences while letting you check out different careers you have considered.
If you want to make the most of your years at high school, you are going to love the DMACC Career Advantage program! With these classes, you are going to enter college with a head start!
