Graduating college is a huge deal. Over the past four or so years, you have poured your blood, sweat, and maybe even literal tears into this space. And now that you’ve reached the end, it’s time to let the entire world know! One of the best ways to celebrate this achievement is with a photo session on the campus where you’ve spent so much of your time. As an Iowa senior photographer, I adore working with students to plan these monumental sessions. Here are the best places to take Iowa State graduation photos.
The exterior of Memorial Union is one of the best spots on Iowa State campus for your graduation photos. Not only is the structure absolutely beautiful, but the center provides you with plenty of photo ops! The steps leading up to the classic limestone facade are going to provide you with a gorgeous backdrop. During the spring, the grounds are covered in vibrant red flowers and lush green grass. You can also stand in front of the fountain and throw up your cap.
If you are looking for iconic campus spots, it really doesn’t get any better than the Campanile located on the central campus. Since the 19th century, this tower has been a crucial part of ISU history. The fields surrounding the bells are flat and vibrant, offering a grassy spot where you can stand with the tower in the background. If you choose to take your photos during the fall, you can catch the vibrant leaves as they start to transform for the season. Because it’s a short walk away from Memorial Union, you can easily use both locations for your pictures.
When you are planning your Iowa State graduation photos, you cannot forget about the sign! Most students tend to sit on it and get wide shots with the entire thing. If you are feeling coordinated, you can stand and celebrate. Be sure to bring your cap and gown because this is going to be the pic you use for your graduation announcements! Bonus: Campanile is located right behind this area, which makes it easy to incorporate both icons.
Beardshear Hall is another classical building that will add tons of charm to your pictures. The grand front entrance opens up to massive columns, inviting you to come in and explore. If you want some interior pictures, the inside has plenty of rich details that will elevate your pics. Outside, I always love having my students pose on the stairs with the building behind them. You can also walk around the field in front of the building or pose on the walkway with the hall behind you.
