From the very beginning, Families First of Pella has worked to find brand-new ways to support families. The non-profit organization was founded in 1994 by a few members of the community. Through their tireless efforts, they were able to get grants to start parenting classes. While many of their materials originally came from Iowa State extension services, they have been using Love and Logic Resources since 2000. Since they first opened their doors, they have only improved! They have constantly adjusted so they can continue to meet the needs of Pella families.
Services
The parenting classes that started this Pella, Iowa organization are better than ever! These are classes that were built to fit around your busy schedule. They meet twice a month, and you can choose between afternoon and evening classes. They also have online Zoom classes if you need them. For their in-person sessions, they offer free childcare as well as lunch. While they will need prior registration to guarantee a meal and childcare, they accept parents who decide to show up at the last minute. And the best part? These classes are available at absolutely no cost!
So, what do these sessions cover? Pretty much everything! You are going to learn how to establish routines, how to avoid arguments, and how to get your child to actually listen to your voice. They know how to help you navigate fights between siblings. You can even learn how to get your child to do their chores without bribery! The classes rely on the book Good Inside, written by Dr. Becky Kennedy, a clinical psychologist. Trust me, you are going to learn a ton!
Specialty
In addition to their regular parenting class, Families First of Pella, Iowa offers regular events that were created to help you connect with your child. They host an annual father daughter dance at Pella High School as well as a mother son fun night. Each season, they typically have something happening at the Pella Public Library such as their Winter Book Bash.
