You probably already know this, but your high school graduation is a huge deal. You have spent years waiting to get to this day. During that time, you’ve built friendships, led your team to victory, and aced those exams. Now, it’s time to show off those accomplishments with senior photos. If you have been having trouble planning your session, I would love to help you out! As a senior and grad photographer, I work with tons of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines graduates on their portraits. Here’s what to think about while planning when to have your senior pictures.

A Guide To Planning Perfect Roosevelt High School in Des Moines Senior Grad Photos

What Do You Want to Wear?

First off, think about what outfits you want to wear throughout your Roosevelt High School pics in Des Moines. Do you love bright sundresses and tank tops? Then you’re probably going to want to avoid planning your session for the middle of winter. Do you prefer cozy sweaters and thick coats? Then the cooler months are going to be better.  Think about your personal style and plan around the season that suits you the best!

What Scenery Do You Want?

Next, it’s time to think about the Des Moines scenery you want for your backdrop if you want outdoor Roosevelt High School pictures. If you want vibrant flowers, late spring or early summer are probably going to be best. For these pictures, I highly suggest booking for the months before senior year starts so you can meet the yearbook deadlines. Remember, you can never book too early, but you can absolutely book too late! If you would prefer the fiery leaves of fall, I would recommend booking your session for mid-October at the very latest.

What Do You Want To Use the Photos For?

Perhaps the biggest thing is figuring out what you want to use the photos for. If this is just your personal Roosevelt High School senior portraits for showing off your Des Moines accomplishments, you probably aren’t racing to meet any deadlines. However, if these are the pictures for your yearbook, you are going to want to get them done sooner rather than later. Also, don’t forget to chat with your parents about what they want to do with the pictures. They may want to include them in the family Christmas card or use them for graduation party announcements. If that’s the case, make sure they have plenty of time to get them printed off.

When is Your Busiest Time of Year?

Last but not least, look at your schedule. If you are the type of person who prefers every free moment filled with extracurriculars that will look great on your college resume, you might not have a ton of time for photos, depending on the season. Plan your session during breaks in your schedule. This is why so many seniors prefer to plan their pics right at the end of summer or the beginning of the school year. If a busy schedule is a concern for you, be sure to book your pictures ASAP so you can get on your photographer’s calendar before it’s full of other students!
