Now, it’s just a matter of finding a place that will suit your style. That’s why I’m here! As a Des Moines senior photographer, I absolutely adore working with seniors to plan photo sessions that let them show off their personalities. Here are the spots I always recommend for senior photos in Des Moines

6 Beautiful And Fun Spots For Senior Photos In Des Moines

Downtown Des Moines

Downtown Des Moines gives you a variety of spots that will work perfectly for your pics! The West Side will give you urban brick and lush green spaces while the Southside has several colorful murals. As you walk along, you’ll find parking garages where you can go up to get the entirety of the city for your background. The iconic Travelers sign also tends to be a favorite backdrop!

Iowa State Capitol

1007 E Grand Ave, Des Moines, Iowa 50319

We are truly lucky to have the Iowa State Capitol in town! This is one of the most beautiful capitols in the country, and it has several rooms that will add charm to your pictures. I personally adore the Law Library for indoor sessions! Once you are done inside, you can head to the exterior and get pictures that show off the legendary limestone facade.

Des Moines Botanical Gardens

909 Robert D. Ray Dr, Des Moines, Iowa 50309

With Des Moines Botanical Gardens, you will have a stunning outdoor space for your pictures. Not only are you going to have lush flowers that add vibrant colors to your pictures, but you will also find statues and sculptures. Because the park has several indoor gardens, this is a great spot year-round!

Grays Lake

Grays Lake tends to be a favorite for both students and photographers. With this location, you can choose from bridges and piers for your session. Some students are a little braver and decide to stand on the banks of the water. Don’t worry if you’d prefer to stay dry, though. This area is scenic enough to shine through your pictures no matter how you want to incorporate it!

World Food Prize Gardens

100 Locust Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50309

The exterior of World Food Prize Gardens gives you a number of ideal spots for your pictures. The gardens were designed to be reminiscent of those from across the globe, offering diverse landscapes. The building itself while give you an elegant backdrop while the walkways make it easy to incorporate the manicured hedges. I am also partial to the fountain in the back.

East Village

East Village is going to provide you with all the classic downtown charm while giving you several historic buildings you can incorporate into your pictures. This area has some of the best restaurants in town, offering cozy interior spots where you can grab a latte while taking your pics. Many students also love incorporating the colorful East Village mural.
