There are only a few certain things in life: death, taxes, and your child having way, way too much energy on the days when the forecast calls for you to stay inside. Thankfully, there are a few places that have exactly what you need to keep them entertained when you just need to break out of the house. Playgrounds Cafe is a space that was created specifically for moms and their babies. As a Des Moines family photographer, I get the chance to find out all about the best local spots. Here’s why I have come to adore this center!

About Playgrounds Cafe

293 SE Westown Pkwy Waukee, Iowa 50263

Playgrounds Cafe is the type of space that you can instantly know was made by parents. Natalie and Shane Goodall were full-time working parents who knew they needed a place where they could let their kiddos explore. Natalie is an interior designer by trade and specializes in creating spaces for young families. She used her expertise to carefully design a space that was for both kids and their parents. Playgrounds opened their doors in 2023 and quickly became a favorite for families all across the area. If you haven’t checked it out yet, consider this your sign to stop by!

The Playgrounds Cafe Experience

When you first walk through the doors of Playgrounds Cafe, you can instantly head to the counter to the right. Here, you can order a coffee for yourself and a snack and drink for your little one. You can also pay for admission and sign their waiver. Once you’re checked in and caffeinated, you can head to the cafe seating area, where you can set everything down. Your child will be able to head to the kids’ area, where they can play pretend in a pint-sized store or explore the wooden playground. If your child is a little younger, you can head to the 0-18 months Zone, where your baby will have a gated-in place to make some new friends while playing with age-appropriate toys. The center features other little touches like family restrooms and a Mothers/Calm Down Room.

In order to access the space, you can either purchase a membership or pay for a drop-in session. You will be free to stay for up to two-hours, though you can stay longer for free if they still have availability. They recommend that you reserve your spot ahead of time to ensure your child can play!
